CoolSculpting Q&A

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting uses a cooling method called Cryolipolysis to target fat cells underneath your skin and freeze them. Freezing, or crystallizing, these cells kills them, and your body naturally processes the dead cells. A few weeks later, you’re left with a leaner, more sculpted you. Because CoolSculpting targets and eliminates the actual fat cells, the results are long-lasting as those cells are gone for good, so they can’t accumulate more fat.

What parts of my body can I treat?

CoolSculpting targets fat in five different areas on your body—your abdomen, “love handles”, inner thighs, outer thighs, and double chin. The procedure is meant to target the visible fat in these particular areas, not to be a method for overall weight loss.

What’s the treatment process like?

CoolSculpting works without surgery, anesthesia, needles or any other invasive techniques. So what should you expect when you go in for your first treatment? The first step is to sit down with Dr. Soleymani and discuss the areas of your body that you want to shape. Based on your particular body type, they come up with a treatment plan just for you.

When it’s time to get to work, you can read, text or even take a nap. The CoolSculpting system does all the work for you, and you’re free to return to your regular routine as soon as you’re finished with the treatment. Each session only lasts 35-60 minutes. Depending on your specific target areas, you may need multiple treatments, although it’s possible that you can get the results you want after only one session.

What are the side effects?

During your procedure, the freezing of the fat cells may cause tingling, stinging, pinching, tugging, pulling, cramping, aching and cold sensations at the target area until it becomes numb. In the few days or weeks following your procedure, you may also experience redness, swelling, firmness, itching, blanching, bruising or skin sensitivity. Talk to Dr. Soleymani if you experience these symptoms for a prolonged period of time.
